❤️ This Closet Was a Problem

4 minute read

Hi Reader!

Years ago, I remember sharing a room reveal and one of the first comments I received was along the lines of:

“The room reveal is great, but where are you storing your kids’ shoes and backpacks?”

I was a bit flabbergasted that THAT was the question after sharing so many creative solutions in the post.

But all these years later, that comment has stuck with me because it hits on what we all really want to know:

How do you store all the “nuisance but necessary” items of life so they are “put away” but also totally accessible?

Carving out some sort of “mudroom” is actually one of the very first projects I tackle when we move into a new home.

Because if I don’t…the shoes and backpacks and coats and papers become a serious problem…and fast!

Sneak Peek

These closet doors aren't the only ones we took off in this house. 🤭 Next week, I'll be sharing TWO more closets that are both organized to the MAX thanks to this same trick!

Behind the Scenes

This week, my oldest turned 15 (15!!!) If you've been coming around the blog for a while, you know I usually do pretty elaborate birthday displays for my kids.

This year, it feels like we closed that chapter (at least for him!), as I only grabbed a happy pom-pom garland for his setup. It was simple, charming, and oh-so-appropriate for his age and our busy life.

And now I kind of love the idea of this being our "birthday garland" that always comes out on birthdays. With this new chapter, maybe we have a new family tradition too!

See you next week!

2 minute read Hi Reader! Last June, our family moved into our 11th home on Camp Pendleton, California. And then just a few months ago, we moved again. I know. I kinda can’t believe it either. This move, however, was unlike any other we’ve tackled in the 20+ years of my husband’s military service. In this month’s Coffee Break, I’m breaking down where we moved to this time, why it was so sudden, and why it means even more good news for you and the blog! My monthly Coffee Breaks are always over...

1 minute read Hi Reader! I have somewhat of a complicated relationship with product packaging. Most, I get rid of almost as soon as the item is in our house (food, cleaning and laundry supplies, hygiene products.) But there are some things I tend to store in their original packaging (board games for sure, but also some craft machines and specialty kitchen gadgets.) Our two Christmas Nativity sets were also in this latter category. But after years of frustration, I finally decided to ditch ALL...

1 minute read Hi Reader! Partly because I love to craft and partly because crafting eventually became my job, I’ve been fortunate to have a dedicated craft room in most of our rental homes. When you have an (often) large and dedicated space for crafts…you tend to fill it…with LOTS of crafts. But when we moved into our (much) smaller home here in southern California, there was no such space. In fact, all we could realistically fit was a single IKEA Kallax unit. So very quickly, I had to get...
