❤️ I'm Changing Things Up!

4 minute read

Well, hey there Reader!

It’s me, Megan…from The Homes I Have Made. 👋

I know…it’s been a while. 🫣

Over a year, in fact, since I sent my last newsletter.

If you’re one of my many readers who have been wondering where I went, what I’ve been doing, and what’s going on…

Hi again!

Sorry for my absence. All is well, and you can catch up on everything going on in my life HERE!

But if you’re instead receiving this newsletter for the first time and wondering who I am and why you’re getting it…

Well...you likely downloaded something from The Home I Have Made in the last year or so and now you’re on my list.

Lucky you!

But wait…don’t unsubscribe yet!

Let me explain why I’m popping into your Inbox today and what you can expect from me moving forward.

(And then…if this still isn’t for you, you can unsubscribe using the button at the bottom of this email. Okay? Cool!)

Let’s Recap

I’m Megan!

I’m wife to a US Marine, mom to 3 young boys, and the blogger behind The Homes I Have Made, a home decor and organization site where I share all the (renter-friendly) changes we make to our homes.

For the last two years, I’ve been mostly MIA on my site, only popping in here and there with some old projects and life updates.

Why did I disappear for so long?

I won’t bore you with the details; but in a nutshell, I was burned out from content creation while also faced with the challenge of moving our family for the third time in three years.

In that time, I began to accept that the blogging chapter of my life was closing.

I even wrote a farewell post saying so.

But month after month, I could never bring myself to post it.

Pivot Point

For the last year or so, I’ve dabbled in lots of other creative pursuits (flower arranging, drawing, professional organizing)...

But my desire to share my home updates and ideas with you never fully dimmed.

So instead of planning my exit, I started brainstorming a pivot.

A pivot that allows me to keep sharing my ideas with you, but in a way that feels fun, fresh, and EASY!

What’s Next

All this to say, I’m back Reader!

Like…really back.

But things will look and feel a little different than the good ol’ days.

Every Sunday (starting next week!) a brand new project/post/idea will be delivered in full, here in your Inbox.

Short. Sweet. Casual.

4 minute read (or less!) No “Click to read more.” No ads.

Sure, the post will hit the blog too. But I’m gonna save you the effort of Googling my url while also including some behind-the-scenes content that I don’t normally share.

(See, I told you you were lucky! 😉)

What I Can Promise You

❤️ My email newsletter will come every Sunday. Keep an eye out for "The Sunday Short" and make sure it’s not going to Spam.

❤️ No sponsorships - I don't like working for brands, and I suspect you’re skeptical of paid partnerships anyway. So take heart in knowing that everything I show is purchased with my own money and shared because I genuinely think you’ll like it too.

❤️ No memberships or paywalls. I’m pretty sure we are ALL exhausted by Substack subscriptions, paywalls, and exclusive content. My content will remain free…forever.

❤️ You’re gonna really love these ideas. I’m laser focused on easy, satisfying, meaningful projects that will make a real difference in your home and your life.

After all these years of blogging, my #1 goal is STILL to inspire you to make a home you love.

It’s taken me the better part of 2 years to figure out a way forward that was both meaningful and manageable in today’s online landscape.

I’m (finally) ready to go, and I’m so excited to have you along for the ride!

Sneak Peek

I’ve wallpapered over 20+ different walls across our 12 homes. But I’ve never had paper go up like this one. Next week, I’m sharing what makes this paper so special & why it was a total game changer for our tiny kitchen!

Behind the Scenes

When the calendar flipped to January 1st 2026, I didn’t have a word of the year ready to go (which is rare for me!)

It actually took me almost two months to identify the word that had been simmering in my psyche for some time.

It struck me when I saw a sign on the side of the road, and I’m not sure I’ve ever had a WOTY fit so right.

My journal shows what I'm manifesting for my home, my life, and the blog in 2026!

I'm so excited about this next chapter, see you next week!

~Megan

2 minute read Hi Reader! We’re used to dealing with some pretty frustrating situations in our rental homes. Ugly carpeting. Bad wall colors. Dated tile. You name it, we’ve had it! Our current home has another nuisance feature: a nook. An awkward, horribly-placed, practically-useless nook. I was determined to make this spot look and function just right for this room, so we ultimately decided to add some floating shelves. And whoa...this awkward spot immediately went from exasperating headache...

5 minute read Hi Reader! The two upstairs closets in our current home were vacuous, awkward, and hard to use in their original configuration. So I made a few (easy) upgrades that turned all the open space into serious storage for games, toys, books, and costumes. 4 minute read Hi Reader! Years ago, I remember sharing a room reveal and one of the first comments I received was along the lines of: “The room reveal is great, but where are you storing your kids’ shoes and backpacks?” I was a bit flabbergasted that THAT was the question after sharing so many creative solutions in the post. But all these years later, that comment has stuck with me because it hits on what we all really want to know: How do you store all the “nuisance but necessary” items of...
